The Trap of "More Questions"

It feels productive: open the app, answer question after question, watch the number in the corner climb. But volume alone does not build mastery — it builds familiarity with your own guessing habits. If you are not stopping to ask why an answer was right or wrong, you are rehearsing confusion, not fixing it.

Before You Start: Set a Real Target

Do not open a random 50-question set "to see how it goes." Pick a topic you already suspect is weak — a course you struggled with in class, or a section your last attempt flagged with a low score. A focused 15-question set on one topic teaches you more than 100 questions spread across everything.

During: Treat Every Wrong Answer as Data

When you miss a question, resist the urge to just note the correct option and move on. Ask three things:

  • Did I not know the fact, or did I know it and still pick wrong?
  • Was the question testing something I have never actually studied, or something I studied badly?
  • Would I get this right if it were asked a different way?

These three questions separate a knowledge gap from a reading-comprehension slip — and they need completely different fixes.

After: Close the Loop Within 48 Hours

Spaced review beats same-day review. If you re-study a weak topic immediately, it feels mastered — but that feeling fades fast because your brain never had to work to retrieve it. Come back to the same topic a day or two later and test yourself again, cold, before looking anything up.

A practice session that ends with "I got 80%" and no follow-up is not practice. It is a scorecard.

Where This Fits on PrepFlow

This is exactly why the topic-level breakdown exists on your dashboard — it is not there to make you feel good or bad about a number, it is there to tell you where to spend your next hour. Treat it as a to-do list, not a report card.
